Parsons Avenue Merchants Association Monument Moving

The current Parsons Avenue Merchants Association monument is located on the east side of Parsons on the north side of the Children's Hospital Parking garage just south of Livingston Avenue.

Due to Children's plans to erect a new structure in the area, the monument will be removed and stored pending relocation to the west side of Parsons Avenue on property where the new Village Pointe building is located.

The Neighborhood Design Center has been tasked with creating a new design for the monument that re-uses some of the existing materials and is appropriate to the new site. A model of the site has been created and students will be creating samples to show what might be built. The Parsons Avenue Merchants Association will oversee the design selection with input.

It is anticipated that the new monument will be available in Spring 2015.

Wine Tasting Fundraiser Recap

A very successful wine tasting event was held to benefit the Schumacher Place Civic Association (SPCA) on August 2.
Lynn Stowe was the perfect hostess - the weather was a perfect evening for a wine tasting allowing folks to socialize with neighbors and friends as well as raise funds for SPCA.
There were plenty of food items donated by neighbors and friend.
Bill Chappel presented the program of wines which were provided courtesy of William Robbins/ Gledhill Robbins & Talis Group of HER Realtors.
This was a sold out event raising $670 for the association.
Many thanks to Lisa, Bill, Lynn and Bill and to all who attended and made the event so successful!

Every day we get just a little bit older. And that is a good thing. The challenge many of us face is how to remain in our homes in Schumacher Place that we have known and loved for years. Please join our membership meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 6:30-8:00pm at Plank's Cafe, 743 Parsons Avenue, to hear from Village Connections. "Village Connections is an urban, community based non-profit organization that empowers members to lead an active and engaged lifestyle in their own homes as they age." Village Connections serves the neighborhoods of German Village, Schumacher Place, Merion Village, The Brewery District and Downtown Columbus.

Plant Pride on Parsons Shoe Collection

Plant Pride on Parsons is conducting a shoe collection drive on April 1-25 to raise funds for Parsons Avenue Plants while benefiting developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills.

Individuals can help by donating gently worn & used shoes. Please place your shoes and boots in a bag and drop them off on the porch of Kathy Green at 458 E Whittier or Dwight Garner at 895 Beech Street or at a drop box at Schiller Park Recreation Center.

In the US alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating your gently worn, used shoes, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference.

All donated shoes will be redistributed to partners through Funds2Orgs and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain, and grow a unique business opportunity to feed, clothe, and house their families.

The additional advantages of diverting shoes from the waste stream to create commerce and sustainability in peoples’ lives make this a win-win for everyone. The only way we can do that is if community members step up and help. I am calling on everyone to clean out their unwanted, gently worn, used shoes and donate them to us
